Why Do We Test on Animals?
When a new product is being developed, we find it unethical to test it on humans for research, which is why we test on animals. Every year, about 115 million animals are used in laboratories all over the globe for research. Mice, rats, fish, rabbits, birds, etc., are the most common animals when it comes to research. Non-human primates, such as monkeys and chimpanzees, are also good candidates for animal testing because of the biological resemblance that humans share with them. In fact, the polio vaccine was tested on monkeys, and its efficiency is still tested on them today. Animals, such as mice and rabbits, are model candidates for testing and research because they can be closely monitored, diets altered, and it's much easier to compare different procedures on genetically identical animals. Bacteria and plants can also be used to undergo research, because of their ability to grow quickly.
